SD Chapter News State of the Chapter Address Fall 2005 Fueled by a "Work Hard, Play Hard" ethic, the Ducks of the San Diego Chapter of Delta Upsilon International Fraternity have made incredible leaps and bounds in hopes of becoming, once again, the top house on campus. In the words of Fraternity Treasurer, Dave Herzer, the San Diego Chapter has shown itself to be a "rags to riches chapter." Over the last two and half years, we've gone from a CEP score of 16% to an unprecedented 88.89%, while at the same time, making strides to see to it that our name is heard and our presence is felt on the campus of San Diego State University. It was not easy by all means. Our executive officers had to endure many hours of training, and proper learning of techniques and principle on how to run a chapter efficiently; all of which was taught to us by our amazing and supportive alumni. The odds may not have been in our favor, but through strength, determination, and brotherhood, we were able to overcome obstacles that would potentially damage, and ultimately destroy a chapter. At the start of the Fall 2005 semester, we only had 14 active members. With the leadership exemplified by our Vice President of Recruitment, Alex Baker, and the wisdom of, now recent alumni, Sean Deichstetter, the San Diego chapter managed to recruit a 9-man pledge class full of men whom embody the Four Founding Principles. They are full of integrity and confidence, and exert much willingness to learn everything about Delta Upsilon and the San Diego chapter. Two of their main goals for the semester are to do an exchange with one of the top sororities on campus, and complete a pledge service project with the Boys and Girls Club. They definitely have the drive and the ambition to accomplish their goals, but they are the only ones who can do it. As each day passes, we continue to grow stronger, and obtain new knowledge that wouldn't be available if it wasn't for the help of our extremely devoted alumni. Over the last two and a half years, with the help of our Alumni President, Jassen Olsen, we've been able to establish a great relationship with our chapter alumni, as well as a few area alumni as well. The now annual event that all San Diego area alumni look forward to each year is our "Padres Fundraiser" event which takes place in beautiful Downtown San Diego at Petco Park. The amount of money that we've raised over the last two years with this event makes it obvious just how much of a success this event has truly become. Left in a great position by our former executive board members, and the leadership of our former president Dave Kozin, the San Diego chapter is not letting up, or slowing down in anyway, as we attempt to make our way back to the top at SDSU. With new rules being implemented by SDSU, and new guidelines that all IFC houses have to abide by it has become quite a challenge to be a good fraternity at San Diego State. Our chapter house may not be the biggest in size, but I'm confident that the amount of brotherhood that is held inside our house is bigger than all the others here at San Diego State. And with that brotherhood, we will take the San Diego chapter of Delta Upsilon International Fraternity to an unprecedented level, never before seen at our campus.
